1st place in Emotion
The WPJA contest judges presented Andre de Saint Phalle, a Vermont, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

Photographer's Comment
There really is nothing quite like the chair dance for bringing out the surging emotions of a wedding celebration. Here I was able to get up onto the bandstand and get a wide shot that conveyed a deeply involving story, from the little boy and his mom on the left, to the bridesmaids on the right, the smiling groomsman holding up the chair, and of course the mother of the groom and her expression of fear, excitement and joy!
