5 Documentary Wedding Photographers...

Belfast wedding photography by Jonathan Ryder, of County Antrim Northern Ireland

I've been a full-time photographer for over 5 years now. Photographing people being people is the best thing ever and I know I'll still be doing it long after I've photographed my last wedding. I'm married to my best friend, Róisín. Somehow she gets me and I'm lucky I have her. We live in Belfast with our two kids, Dáithí and Isla, in an old townhouse that's got bags of charm (and NO space). The kids are everything to us. On weekends off, we fuel-up with coffee and take them out adventuring. [Belfast Wedding Photographer]

Andrew Billington award winning documentary wedding photographer

The first chapter in my working life was as an actor and theatre stage manager. I’ve spent my life telling stories and I continue to do so. I live with my wife Rachel and my two dogs on the edge of the Peak District in the UK - most of my spare time is spent walking, reading and catching up with box sets. For the last ten years, I’ve been photographing weddings, refining and perfecting my relaxed, story-telling approach. I photograph on average 40 weddings a year and try to find something different for every wedding couple I work with. 3 years ago I was asked to run a workshop on my approach to documentary wedding photography and that has expanded into running full day workshops across the UK (and even a solo, workshop in Crete in 2018). As well as photographing weddings I photograph live theatre for a few national theatres and it's a way of getting my photography to a wider audience through Nation Newspapers and exhibitions. Wedding Reportage Photography by Dominique Shaw in North Yorkshire, UK

Dom began York Place Studios at the tender age of 21 along with elder brother Liam. With her film photography background and fine art influences she entered the world of weddings with the idea of doing things a little differently and in doing so created the founding principles of the York Place Style. Her passion, bubbly personality and sense of romance puts emotion at the centre of her imagery. [North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer]

Scotland and Edinburgh wedding photography by Zoe Brunner of the United Kingdom WPJA

Hi, I'm Zoë I've been taking photos for almost a decade. It took me until the end of my bachelor's degree to realise that photography was what I wanted to do full time. Although I studied philosophy and linguistics (University of Edinburgh), I nearly always found myself thinking about photography, not Immanuel Kant! Philosophy did teach me something though. It taught me about aesthetics, about beauty, and about ways of seeing the world. These sensibilities are what I bring to my photography. Outside of photographing weddings, I'm also a passionate rock climber, sourdough baker, and craftswoman. I was born and raised in Zürich, Switzerland, but you wouldn't know it from my accent. With these tools in hand, your guests are guaranteed a chance to relive the day in all its uninhibited glory.Read more
Photo of the Bride & Groom living in their own little world just moments after the ceremony | Romantic Wedding Photos
The first time you envisioned your wedding, you probably didn’t see a long list of details to attend to, decisions to be made or negotiations to be undertaken. Surely, your vision involved you and your partner. It was filled with tenderness, sweet melodies, pure bliss…and romance. After all, a wedding is romantic—the consummation of your everlasting love. A skilled wedding photojournalist knows how to anticipate and capture situations that convey those special feelings. When the day is over,...Read more
Shaunte Dittmar, of California, is a wedding photographer for West Shore Cafe
Picture this: It's mid-summer, with temps in the low-80s, a cloudless sky, and oh-so-light gusts keeping everyone just cool enough. Maybe you're out on a bluff, overlooking the ocean, or in a fragrant, blooming garden. A scene is set for the ideal summer wedding. But—back in reality here—there's no way that six to eight months or more down the road any couple can forecast such pristine conditions for their wedding day. Despite their idealized image, summer weddings can...Read more
Denis Gostev, of New York, is a wedding photographer for St. Francis Xavier Church
You can argue that of all the photos on your wedding day, the ones taken during the ceremony are the most meaningful—that’s why you’re there, right? It’s ironic, then, that wedding photojournalists regularly have the most trouble shooting their best work in the churches where these very ceremonies take place. Often times, significant moments unfold in front of camera lenses that are too far away, positioned at awkward angles, and photographers are forced to operate under...Read more
Show Shutter Wedding Day Photography - Groom dancing at the wedding reception with some blur
Dragging the shutter is a basic photographic technique that is often put to highly creative use by the best wedding photojournalists. Whether depicting the bride mid-whir during a dance, or documenting a child bounding down the aisle at the church, dragging the shutter helps produce images that contain a sense of motion and bring an added dose of festivity to what, for some, already feels like a whirlwind day. When photographers “drag” the shutter by slowing down its speed, they...Read more
Wedding Photography of Busy Getting Ready Scene | Image of the groom enjoying himself as the bride, her bridesmaids, and her mom try to get her bustled for the cocktail hour
A wedding is not just the culmination of a couple’s commitment. It’s also the final product of much planning and preparation. Yet despite the best-laid plans, your big day won’t necessarily get a free pass from Murphy’s Law. Some chaos is almost inevitable at some point along the way. Luckily, when you hire a wedding photojournalist, you have someone on hand who is an expert in capturing those moments as memorable visual stories that you’ll enjoy for years to come. Hi Andrew, Phroahhhhhhh! What photos! What WONDERFUL photos, thank you very much indeed. We have had so much fun coming back from days of sightseeing and reminiscing about what was for us such a perfect day. Your photos have captured some beautiful moments, thank you so much! We have shared the link with family and friends and the compliments keep coming in! The photo album looks beautiful, Sarah is somewhat of a photo album nerd and has plans to make a wedding album when we're back (so may be in touch in December). Thank you again for helping make our day even more special, these photos will bring us happy memories for many years to come. Majella & Noel

Dear Dylan I just wanted to drop you a note about our amazing wedding photos – I can’t stop looking at them and each time I do, I see something different in them! It was such a lovely surprise to get a first look at them when we were on honeymoon. I really think you captured the day so well and it has really eased the post-wedding/honeymoon blues. On a personal note, I wanted to thank you for the utterly pain-free way you took all the shots, so different to the usual posed pictures that leave everyone bored stiff with the whole process and with wooden expressions. I just love the natural smiles and happy expressions of all my family! With very best wishes Majella and Noel
