Jalisco wedding photographer Juan Carlos Calderon, of Puerto Vallarta

Shortly before I started my photographer's career in 2012, times were very challenging for me because I didn't have a job for 6 months straight. The only job I could find was an online coupon agency, just like Groupon, but local. It was an extremely demanding job. I was in charge of the creative department and was an editor as well for online ads of different local businesses. Many of these businesses I didn't even know but still had to make them look like they were “the bomb“. It was an 8-hour straight job in front of a computer creating the ads, answering emails, making phone calls and doing customer service and I was doing all this trying to be as charming and convincing as Steve Jobs, but I felt absolutely miserable. One day I decided to send some pictures of mine to a photo contest advertised in a local paper. So I sent some I used to take during very relaxing photo-walks around Puerto Vallarta with my wife Melissa on my days off. And guess what? I won. And the prize was a position as a 1st photographer in an exclusive resort! I felt like the luckiest man alive! But the thing is, I didn't know ANYTHING technical about photography, I didn't know about composition, ISO, shutter speed or apertures. I was a layman really. But my boss didn't care about those technicalities and he told me very seriously on my first assignment: “Here's your camera, you have your first wedding at 6:00 pm“. And I was like: “ Okay, I better make this work...“ LOL. Fortunately for me (and most importantly, for the bride), the pictures didn't suck. But obviously, they were far from great and I didn't want to cheat myself or anybody else again, so after that experience, I committed myself to become the best photographer I could be. I've been studying, training, learning and practicing since then and I've never stopped. Now, I am so grateful because I do what I love the most, with the person I love the most. Oaxaca, Mexico wedding photography by Douglas Favero

I am a Oaxaca destination wedding photographer. My first Oaxaca destination wedding came in 2008, when a Brooklyn bride, with her fiancé, from the Isthmus, came across my photographs of Spain, Morocco, California, and Oaxaca, at an art sale on Alcalá in Oaxaca. She said she loved my style and wanted me to shoot her wedding. Since I had never shot a wedding before, her coordinator, Marcela González, with whom I have collaborated on so many of the most beautiful weddings in Oaxaca since 2008, recommended I be the second shooter to the photographer they had already booked. It was a part-Jewish, part-Istmeña wedding at Casa de Los Pintores and the day was full of so much life and fun and amazing moments that I was hooked. I began investing in my education as a photographer, and in my professional equipment. Soon enough I started giving workshops in English and Spanish and served as a liaison and interpreter for iconic film photographer Mary Ellen Mark's Oaxaca photography workshops. I have exhibited in places like Casa de la Ciudad, with financial support from the Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation, and published in magazines and newspapers like The Wall Street Journal and El País, among many others. I have met the needs of discerning clientele like Casa Oaxaca, Oaxaca Film Fest, and brides from around Mexico and the US looking for something different for their destination wedding photography. So many years later, each new wedding still gives me the same thrill as the first. This is because I push myself to meet the artistic and storytelling challenges each new wedding puts before me. It would be an honor to be your photographer, and tell the story of your day in a way you will love to revisit the rest of your lives. [Oaxaca Wedding Photographer]

Adrian Bonet is a Wedding Photographer for Quintana Roo, Riviera Maya and Playa del Carmen

I was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1980. I started working as a photographer in 2006 when I founded in my hometown a company dedicated to advertising photography. At that time, I was especially focused on portrait and fashion photography and I worked for big companies and well-known advertising agencies. Over time, I became interested in wedding photography until I decided finally to devote myself completely to it. In 2008, I started doing wedding photo shoots out of my city, and gradually my work as wedding photographer became more and more internationally known. In 2013, I decided to move to Mexico in order to shoot the weddings I had always dreamed of. I toured Mexico from north to south doing many photo shoots. I worked in Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Sayulita, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Campeche, Merida, Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, among many other places. On a personal level, I have also visited different continents around the world. I know America, Europe, Africa and some of Asia. I love music, movies, art and literature. I am passionate about photography—the act of capturing the beauty of a moment and freezing it in time. Today I live in Playa del Carmen and I am dedicated to shooting destination weddings for couples from all over the world. [Playa del Carmen Wedding Photographer]

Melissa Mercado shoots destination weddings in Playa del Carmen Mexico

A "Playense" from California, I am a global lover of images and beautiful places. I love love, people and the quirky side of life. I believe in bringing emotion to life through images and having an absolutely awesome time in the process! Be forewarned... my laugh is contagious! I have more than 15 years experience shooting, nearly 5 running an award winning studio and 2 shooting weddings full time as a solo artist. With 10 years invested in a formal photography education... I realized the only thing that really matters is having fun and making beautiful memories along the way. My style is campy, silly, and full of color, love and laughter - even in the sweet teary moments. I learned from some masters in the industry that the moments are what we capture when we paint with light. My film and digital approach couldn't agree more! My grandmother, a photographer herself, planted the seeds years ago for what would become my life's passion. And having exhibited from little Cafe Walls, galleries in Denver and San Francisco, to the walls of families from all over the world - there is nothing more exciting than moving someone with a moment. Currently, I call Mexico's Playa del Carmen home. You call it paradise. I think we're both right - let's go adventure it together - I've got the camera, you bring the sass. Atizapan de Zaragoza wedding photography by Pepe Quiroz, of the State of Mexico

I am a loving husband and father of a beautiful teenager, a good friend a love story teller and a wedding documenter in pictures. I left behind my work of many years as an information technology engineer to dedicate myself to pursue my dream, to be a photographer. For this, I studied photography 4 years at the Center for Contemporary Art in Mexico City, because the inspiration must come from somewhere. My first weddings I made completely using black and white film; I revealed myself and the impressions in my dark room. I have photographed more than 450 weddings over more than 10 years and that experience is put at the service of the next wedding to be photographed. My life is documentary photography which I get by observing and registering interesting people, in an interesting place, doing interesting things, like a wonderful wedding. My job is to make couples and their families happy by giving value to their visual heritage with memories that will accompany them throughout their lives and of those who will always feel proud. Outside the weddings, my work was published in magazines as CuartOscuro, Mexico Desconocido, Chilango, Eres Novia, MexiGoCity. [Atizapan de Zaragoza Wedding Photographer]

Nicky Byrnes wedding photography for Lake Tahoe and Northern CA

I’ve had a camera in my hand since I can remember. On family vacations each of us had a camera and would come back with several rolls of film. It was great to see different perspectives of the same place. My photos became more refined throughout my childhood as I graduated to my stepdad’s Minolta film SLR. As a teenager and self professed “scene-kid” my interests turned to boys, music and books so my photos changed as well. I would deck myself out in black eyeliner weekly to shoot photographs of my favorite musicians. Bands are still one of my favorite photo subjects by the way, so be prepared if you get me started talking about them. In college I dedicated myself to photography professionally with a degree in photojournalism, then found my calling with a wedding studio at 19. I’ve since been published in Paste and XLR8R print magazines as well as Billboard Online, Tahoe Unveiled, Borrowed and Blue, The Knot, and Wedding Wire Blogs. On a more personal note, I’m a former Michigander who has called north Lake Tahoe her home since October 2011. I still miss Michigan beer (the best in the world, don’t argue), cherries, pasties (savory meat pies found in the UP) and warm nights but I couldn’t imagine living anywhere but Tahoe. I’m fascinated by all the quirky, wild, backwoods parts of America and I’m only missing four states on my quest to 50; Oklahoma, New Mexico, Maine and Alaska. I love all things outdoors. I hike or mountain bike almost every day with my Irish Wolfhound/Greyhound mix, Lindy and my big crazy Great Dane Captain. I also love to ski (badly), SUP and kayak, and volunteer with Achieve Tahoe. When I’m not shooting, sleeping or eating popcorn, I’m probably with my husband of almost one year, Keegan! [Lake Tahoe Wedding Photographer]

Sacramento Wedding Photographer Raymond Nguyen - CA

I have had a passion for photography for as long as I can remember. Since a child, I was delighted in how a moment can be captured through the lens of a camera, and how time stands still within the frame of a photograph. I approach every project with professionalism and a will to deliver quality and value to my clients. I believe that exceptional photographs can only be taken in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and so I make every effort to make sessions as enjoyable as possible and to put clients at ease. When I first used a camera, several years ago, I would never have imagined I could become a wedding photographer. Bang and I opened our first studio in Elk Grove, near Sacramento, experimenting in different styles and adapting to the needs of the local clientele. Little by little, we realized what we were looking for in our photos was emotion, which still life or classical studio photography could not offer. Real people, their expressions, their emotions, this is what we wanted to capture. Choosing wedding photography was a natural consequence, as it offers the unique opportunity to capture human emotions in all their shades I believe it is in the nature of humankind to be attracted, and sometimes, upset, by what is different from us, as in a way it represents our opposite, our contrasting personality. I never found it easy to show my emotions and my sensitivity, to express my real self and let go completely, displaying my vulnerability. I guess this is why what attracts me most in weddings: the ability to capture the emotions expressed without filters, with no fear of showing what you really are and what you are feeling. A smile, a hearty laugh, tears you’d like to hide, an emotional hug, these intimate moments fascinate and seduce me, and this is what I base my photography on. Static poses created with affected emotions are not my cup of tea; I want true spontaneity. [Sacramento Wedding Photographer]

Jesse La Plante has a Bachelor’s Degree in photojournalism and shoots weddings in and around Boulder, Colorado.

I’ve worked as a professional photographer for more than a decade. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in photojournalism and started out in the newspaper industry. During that time, I shot everything from criminal court trials to Detroit Pistons games (I’m originally from Michigan); structure fires to beauty pageants; congressional debates to high school football games on Friday nights. Every day was a new challenge; every assignment a new learning opportunity. My time as a photojournalist taught me to be resourceful and to think on my feet, which has proven invaluable for wedding photography. In the summer of 2008, I started shooting weddings on the side and absolutely loved it. I was able to visit new places, meet new people, and was granted a very important and personal role in what was arguably the most joyful day of their lives. Plus, I started getting a ton of compliments on my work and how it was different from typical wedding photography. People would tell me that they could spot one of my photos from a mile away without having to be told who the photographer was – that I was beginning to cultivate a very specific style. So when my wife, Moira, and I moved to Colorado that fall, I decided to make wedding photography my full-time career; we started J. La Plante Photo and never looked back. When I’m not behind the lens, you can probably find me on the slopes. Skiing is one of the main reasons I moved west. I’m also obsessed with the music scene out here. Red Rocks is by far the coolest venue I’ve ever been to. I’m a craft beer nerd, a movie buff, an amateur screenwriter and an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction alike. And I love to travel. I’ve been to 18 foreign countries and all 50 United States. I drove all over the American West before deciding to settle in Colorado, where I immediately fell in love with the state’s blend of urban and outdoor lifestyles. The proximity of Denver to the mountains felt too good to be true and now, eight years later, it still feels that way. I can’t imagine a more perfect setting for a wedding photographer. Valencia wedding photographer Antonio Calatayud, of Spain

I have always been passionate about cinema and since I was a child I knew I wanted to dedicate myself to audiovisual art. Hanging from a camera wherever I went, I decided that I wanted to dedicate myself professionally to my passion. I enrolled in Audiovisual Communication to acquire knowledge and become a specialist in different languages: photography, film, videos, multimedia, television, and radio. During the last years of my career, I launched into the world of work and started working on films as a "decoration meritorious". It was an interesting job because of my passion for cinema, but the decoration was not my thing, so I started to alternate different jobs as an editor and camera assistant. In 2004 I graduated and at the time I had the possibility, I took a camera and started recording and working as a camera operator. It was what I really liked and where I was going to put all my effort. [Valencia Wedding Photographer]

Elena Bazini photographs weddings in Chicago.

When I’m not photographing weddings, you are most likely to find me traveling the world or straight up relaxing with my husband in Logan Square. My favorite recent trips include Thailand, France, and the Northwest Territories of Canada. When my bags aren’t packed, you can find me drinking iced lattes (even in the dead of winter), listening to music on a blanket in Logan Blvd (not in the dead of winter), or at home with my husband and little terrier (David and Frankie, respectively.) I am a Chicago-based wedding photographer who loves getting to know my clients. I love telling stories with my images. And I love weddings. When my clients look back on their wedding images, I want them to remember how it felt to be there. I want them to have beautiful images of moments they may have missed– a tear quickly swept away, a big laugh, a quick but meaningful glance. While I love classic poses and unique composition, my favorite photographs always end up being the moments that happen naturally. I am drawn to beautiful light and real emotion. I am always striving to create that image that will make you say ‘wow.’ With passion, dedication, creativity, and style, I specialize in telling beautiful love stories with photos that capture the essence of each couple. New York - Upstate wedding photographer Tracey Buyce

I believe in providing a visual family legacy. On your wedding day, I become part of your family, one of your friends. Therefore, your story is truly told through the eyes of a friend, not a stranger. Photography at your wedding isn’t about hours of posing for photos, it’s about enjoying one of the most important days of your life with the people that matter most to you. Family. Friends. By welcoming me into your world, I am able to capture all the emotions of the day – the serious, the silly and the poetic. It is my passion as a photographer to have your wedding photos depict the relationship between you and the people you love. We become who we are through our family and friends. Your photos will communicate who they are and the bond you have with each of them. As an artist, how I see and feel during your wedding is a reflection of my own family legacy. My father, Jack, was a powerful man, in mind, body, and spirit. He taught me to listen, to be loyal, to be respectful, to always be prepared, to be charitable, and to always work hard. My mother, Sylvia, was vibrant, funny, outgoing, and generous. She gave me the confidence to be myself. In the past few years I have lost both of my parents. I miss them very much. A friend recently told me, “Tracey, on a wedding day, you are the best of both your parents. You work your tail off and you’re the couple’s best friend.” In Interlaken, Switzerland, on June 9, 2008, I married the love of my life, my rock, Pete. The way I feel when Pete looks at me is what I aspire to capture for my couples. He is thoughtful, funny, understanding, and truly my best friend. Pete is the only man, other than my father, who has loved me unconditionally. He is simply amazing. We have two rescue dogs, Roxy and Cassidy and our shelter kitty Reece. I love our little family and we couldn’t be happier! I want to get to you know you, your fiancé and your families. I want to know what matters to you most. I want to be your photographer — and on your wedding day, a member of your family. [Saratoga Springs Wedding Photographer]

Erik Shenko, wedding photographer for Costa Rica and Playa del Carmen, Mexico

I'm a destination wedding photographer passionate about art. Photography and music are the ways to express myself and share with the world my joy of living. I'm married to a great woman with who is a photographer too and we both are part of Shenkophotography. We share our time between Costa Rica and Playa del Carmen, Mexico as we truly enjoy working in these two corners of the world. Travel is our big passion and we just love to combine it with our work all over the planet. Doesn't matter if we are in Playa del Carmen, in Philippines or in Costa Rica we are always interested in different weddings, different couples and different ways of celebrating love. One of the basic things in our approach to the wedding photography is to meet our couples in the real life and to take pictures of them before the wedding day, so the couple can know us personally and see how we work. It's essential for us to learn the interaction between two people before documenting their big day so we do our possible to organize a meeting or even tow some months or some days before the wedding day. We define our style as a documentary photography, in other words more life less poses! For real and amazing pictures it is enough of being in love, being positive and being yourself. Tampa wedding photographer Phillippe Diederich - Florida WPJA

I fell in love with photography when I was in my late teens and living in Mexico City. I always saw photography as an art and as a tool for social change. This led me to spend a couple of decades working as a freelance photojournalist covering news and feature assignments for national and international publications. After my son was born, I chose to scale back on travel. I took time off to get an MFA and started teaching at the college level, and lecturing on writing and photography. I have exhibited nationally, published a couple of novels, and I’m currently learning to play the guitar—it’s not easy! I’ve been photographing weddings for over a decade. I shoot only about a dozen weddings each year, which helps me offer a more personal service. I’m always honored by how families welcome me into their lives. I feel a great sense of responsibility to remain unobtrusive while capturing the moments that will become lifelong memories. For me, photographing a wedding is about telling a story, not just of the day itself, but of two people—and two families—coming together. I’m based in Florida’s Gulf Coast and cover weddings from Miami to Tampa at no additional charge. I’m available for destinations weddings in Mexico, the Caribbean and beyond. I’m fluent in Spanish and French. [Tampa Wedding Photographer]

Ontario wedding photography by Amit Dullu of Canada

Photography, for me, is my passion and I believe my pictures are moments in time that I have been able to capture and each of those moments is able to tell us a story. It is those first ten minutes I spend with my clients that are the most important ones - its the beginning of understanding each other and making that short journey together.... an opportunity for me to give them their story in my words. With no formal training in photography, I have left no stone unturned to learn from any knowledgeable source I can - I have put in long hours to understand the finer technical aspects of this art, experimented and honed my skills over the years. What started as a short two-hour maternity shoot in a snowstorm has now become 5 years of extensive experience of shooting more than a hundred weddings - most of them in Canada and India. As a full-time professional photographer, I specialize in portrait & wedding photography - also do events, if time permits. On the parallel, I also love to paint - mostly abstracts in acrylics...my work was recently chosen in the 8 best emerging artists in Toronto by the prestigious Elaine Fleck Gallery. Minas Gerais wedding photography by Victor Ataide of Brazil

My name is Victor Ataide and I work since 2012 as a wedding photographer, families and events in Brazil and abroad. I chose photography because I love telling stories through images. And it is through photography that I have reframed my concepts of love, passion, dream, and challenge. There are stories that allow me to immerse myself, become part of them, and consequently generate a great responsibility for me: faithfully portraying the feelings that emerge and sublime moments in people's lives. These stories were essential for me to win over 40 awards at leading international photography associations. I am an accountant of emotions, feelings, lives, complicity and most importantly, of love. Without it, we are nothing and feel. Love is responsible for generating in us the strength capable of capturing all the beauty emanating through photography. I am here to make my contribution as a witness to happy stories, always hoping that they will last forever. I am completely inspired by God and always looking for his presence. Without Him, I would not be here. I also enjoy good music, especially if I'm in the company of my friends and people who do me good. I have traveled the world capturing with my lens the most beautiful and incredible love stories. [Minas Gerais Wedding Photographer]

Miami wedding photography by Brenda Bravo - Florida WPJA

I was born in Los Angeles, California (to Peruvian parents) and have lived throughout Northern and Southern Cali most of my life until about March 2011 when I decided to up & move to Lima, Peru to pursue my dream of being a full-time photographer and documenting social work in the slums of Lima. After graduating from California State University at Fullerton in 2010 with a bachelor's in Visual Communication & minor in Sociology, I attended several photojournalism workshops around the world for years including Look3 Festival of the Photograph workshops (Charlottesville, VA) and Foundry Photojournalism Workshop in Istanbul, Buenos Aires and Mexico City, BodaF in Querétaro, Mexico and Beyond [Wedding Photography] Workshop in Lima, Peru 2016 & 2017. Each of these experiences brought out a different world within me and taught me the value of photography as a tool to help us see, not only things or other people but ourselves. I’ve been photographing couples and families for over 10 years now, but falling in love and having experienced what it’s like to be the bride first-hand has changed the way that I see through my viewfinder at weddings. I am an utterly hopeless romantic and I can see and feel the love around me much more now than ever before. I get it. I offer real, emotive, and breathtaking images that capture who you truly are and all the joy you are feeling on your day. I also love to capture the behind the scenes bits, which I feel are the most interesting and telling; the pre-ceremony jitters, the anxiety in the dressing room, the sheer madness and beauty of it all. I live for these raw moments and am always ready to capture them when you least expect or even notice. Let me share my passion and years of photography experience with you. Maybe we can get a coffee together and you can tell me all about how your story began and how you want to remember it. [Miami Wedding Photographer]

Creative Portraits and wedding photography | Bride & groom portrait walking in front of colorful wall outside
Portraits are part of every wedding, of course, but some photos have the ability to sear themselves into the memory, providing an unforgettable image that rises above the common convention. Wedding photojournalists shooting portraits work within an expanded set of parameters, just like their counterparts in the news world: Some direction and setup is acceptable in order to fully capture subjects in the context of who they are and what they are feeling. Yet everyone approaches wedding portraits...Read more
Photo of the Bride & Groom with the guests caught in the rain running for cover.
You will be told some traditions — Hindu, Maltese — consider rain a good omen on a wedding day. You will be told a wet knot is harder to untie. You may — correctly — think that if the two of you can face the day's elements with aplomb and grace, you're more likely to face life's challenges with strength and flexibility. The truth is, you can plan for the possibility of rain on your wedding day . (If it's an outdoor wedding and depending on the climate, in...Read more
A woman holds a little girl's hand while the bride kneels down and smiles at her before the ceremony in this wedding photo | Children photography at weddings.
The start of the great divide between the sexes can be witnessed a lot earlier in life than most believe. Girls and boys participating in weddings around the world demonstrate this time and time again. Frequently, little girls will relish the opportunity to dress up in their finest, while the boys do so begrudgingly, kicking and screaming all the way to the altar, so to speak. However, it doesn’t take long before that divide is bridged, and children are children again, with neither girls nor...Read more
Wedding Photojournalism Beauty Photos of the bride crossing her eyes as she reacts to her dress being buttoned up from behind
The bride steps into her wedding gown. Her mother and a coterie of bridesmaids assist her with the final touches on her hair and makeup. They primp and preen at her gown, perhaps contributing something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Today, the vast majority of brides invite their photographer to document the “getting ready” period, and for good reason. Getting ready can be a monumental task for the bride and her entourage, and an event in itself. It...Read more
Show Shutter Wedding Day Photography - Groom dancing at the wedding reception with some blur
Dragging the shutter is a basic photographic technique that is often put to highly creative use by the best wedding photojournalists. Whether depicting the bride mid-whir during a dance, or documenting a child bounding down the aisle at the church, dragging the shutter helps produce images that contain a sense of motion and bring an added dose of festivity to what, for some, already feels like a whirlwind day. When photographers “drag” the shutter by slowing down its speed, they...Read more

WOOOOOOOO WWWWWWWwW. This is basically the highest form of verbal praise we can give, when we are so blown away by things, we add at least 7 o’s and at least the same number of whatever consonant letter follows the vowel. This is because the pictures leave us so incredibly speechless that all we keep saying is “this is amazing” “no, THIS is amazing.” Which dilutes the power of the amazing which is not at all fair. You guys must be photography ninjas because after the family photos, you were so stealthy I had no idea of your whereabouts, but clearly you were hiding in the best places to capture all these great memories!!!! I am so so happy with these sneak peek photos! Thank you for the gift of your craft. We are so happy you were there on our special day capturing all of these moments in such unique and beautiful form.
