Standing above the clouds at the edge of Haleakala's dormant crater, Kristin and Charlie recite their wedding vows. It was the culmination of a whirlwind day, one in which they enjoyed some of the most incredible sights in the world together, before beginning the true adventure of a lifetime.
After waiting more than two years to get married, Kristin and Charlie decided that the large Midwest wedding that everyone expected was not right for them. Rather than a grand and elaborate celebration that was more focused on the guests than the couple, these two decided to plan an adventurous elopement in which they made memories together before being married in a breathtaking, remote location on the island Maui in Hawaii.
Their wedding day began with a helicopter ride over the West Maui Mountains, across the Pailolo Channel and over to Molokai, where they glanced over the steepest sea cliffs in the world. After their journey through the air, they stopped in West Maui for a brief moment of reflection, before heading back to the heliport.
Reversing the traditional order of events, the bride and groom enjoyed a simple wedding feast of Thai food with their officiant prior to their 10,000-foot ascent to the summit of Haleakala. There, they exchanged their vows and watched the sunset over the volcano's dormant crater.
