The Villa is steeped in history, having been built by the Muggiasca family in the charming villages of Cernobbio and Moltrasio. Giovanni Muggiasca, a merchant of Como, acquired a vast land in 1435, stretching from the shore of the lake to the peak of the hills and crossing Via Regina, the main road serving the entire Lake Como. John the Baptist, the last of the Muggiasca who inhabited the property, is credited with much of the neoclassical furniture and the marble monument dedicated to Alessandro Volta in the parkland.
