Photographer's Comment

We had a heads up that the groom was going to do this because we documented him earlier taping his shoes, so this shot was anticipated! I could've never imagined, however, that the reactions would be this great. Really, she had no idea!

    • I really like this picture as an emotional observation, I think it would have placed a lot higher in another category away from ‘detail' but I love the feel of it and couldn't leave it out of the placing

    • This painterly impressionistic image of two children works because of the softness and the background lighting, which also highlights the children's heads.

    • This flower girl’s befuddled expression takes the cake. Her difference in height breaks the continuity of the staggered line of bridesmaids, and the cropping at their waists focuses the attention on the little girl.

    • Hi-key lighting behind the bride trailing off to rim lighting on the on-looking little girl wearing the crown of flowers gives this photo the feel of a painting.

    2006 Fall Judges

    Photographer's Comment

These girls spent most of the evening hovering over the cake, I'm pretty sue one of the snuck some frosting off the side.

    Judges

    • Sometimes it seems like there is no light, and that little light makes the photograph. In this case, the two little girls admiring the cake is just plain different. I like the mystery of it and the composition. The photographer tried something different, and it worked.

    2005 Spring Judges

    Judges

    • Interesting, unusual construction of the image, with the bright white of the bride cutting the image in half. The wide-eyed innocence of the flower girl in the foreground contrasts with the mix of adult expressions in the other half of the picture. It's a photo that raises questions as well as answers them, which is usually a good thing ... one hopes the wedding party is comfortable with photos like this
