  • There are few times a silhouette rises as high or higher than the bride’s bouquet. It’s a form of juxtaposition that requires, like any composition, a reason, which usually is a form of setting, or, at best it completes the moment tying one action to another in a meaningful fashion. But in this image the silhouette has become the “juxtaposer” playing off the bride as “juxtaposee.” What a lovely image.
  • Nice use of positive and negative space. Great planning and execution in this frame.

    • Tragic moment. Great reaction.
    • A short trip to the reception hall became even shorter thanks to a bad trip. It’s bad enough that they dropped the cake but somehow worse for it to land on a gutter grate. The action, the decisive moment, is served nicely by the quick action of the photographer but my favorite slice of this visual dessert are the witnesses watching this moment spill before their eyes, the shutter recording this comedic drama even before bystanders can understand what has happened.

    • One can almost hear the sound of an organ or, perhaps, orchestra signaling the triumphant entry of the bride to meet her groom, her moment, her day played out before a host of friends and family. The outstretched arm of a bridal attendant leads our eye into the scene and ushers us downward to the waiting assembly. We are part of the moment, at stage center, visually wishing them forward.
