Lisa Krantz has been a staff photographer at the San Antonio Express-News since March 2004. In the spring of 2018, Lisa was an Adjunct Profession at Texas A&M-San Antonio. Previously she worked at the Naples, Florida, Daily News for five years.
Among her notable honors, she was a 2018 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography. She received the American Society of News Editors Photojournalism Award in 2018; first place for Best Published Picture Story (Large markets) in NPPA's Best of Photojournalism Awards, 2018; the Award of Excellence, Newspaper Photographer of the Year, from POYi, in 2018; the Award of Excellence, Newspaper Local Picture Story, from POYi, 2018; the Award of Excellence, Feature, from POYi, 2017; an Editor & Publisher EPPY Award for Best Investigative/Enterprise Feature on a Website, 2016. She was also a Pulitzer Prize finalist for Feature Photography in 2015, for documenting the hard road Central American migrants must follow to seek refuge in the United States.
At the Express-News she covers everything from hurricanes to the NBA Championship, although her true love is telling intimate untold stories in communities. Most recently she spent close to two years documenting life in the small city of Helotes, Texas, as it struggles to maintain its identity in the face of suburban growth.
