Captain Steve officiates their wedding ceremony on the bow of his boat, overlooking Vikingsholm Castle in Emerald Bay State Park. Vikingsholm Castle was constructed in 5 months in 1929 for Ms. Lora Knight and modeled after Scandinavian architecture.

For Julieanne and Mark, boats had always been central to their relationship. Mark had proposed on the Queen Mary and they had subsequently planned to get married on it. Long before COVID, their wedding was dealt a couple of blows: the Queen Mary changed hands and was sold, altering their first wedding date and plans. Subsequently, COVID altered them again. Julieanne said, “We were tired of our wedding getting cancelled, so we decided to have an intimate trip to Tahoe, just the two of us, to tie the knot. It was amazing.” Since they had originally wanted to get married on a boat, they decided to have a Lake Tahoe boat elopement and hired Lake Tahoe Boat Rides for the event.  Captain Steve, who happens to be one of my best friends, officiated, shared all the incredibly rich history that he knows about the area, and took us on a cruise of Lake Tahoe.

Julieanne and Mark were married as the sun was setting behind the ridge in Emerald Bay, on the shores of Vikingsholm Castle and it was absolutely beautiful.  We nailed the timing and the light! They promised all their friends, like many of my couples, that they are going to celebrate with family and friends when it’s safe but that the incredibly unique experience was absolutely perfect for them. “Lauren, you and Captain Steve made our day even more special and were such a pleasure to hang out with.  You made Mark and I laugh, relax and brought such a positive energy to our unique elopement,” Julieanne wrote afterwards. I’m so grateful that this year, that has been so incredibly challenging for EVERYONE, has been filled with amazing clients like these two. For me 2020 has been all about trying to be as present as possible for the small joys and shared experiences that we have managed to have and this is one of my favorites from the year!
