5th place in Cake Cutting
The WPJA contest judges presented Christobal Perez, a North Carolina, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Before I looked through the images for this contest, I never thought about how difficult it must be to get a nice cake cutting picture. For me, the nice pictures contained something special - like a unique moment, or something funny, or a new perspective. This image is funny, and the moment is unique. It tells a complete story and need no caption. I laughed when I saw it, and it immediately stood out from all the rest.
