8th place in Getting Ready
The WPJA contest judges presented Karen Gordon, a Texas, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Some pictures just work on a different level. I don't love the light, but I love what this represents in the scheme of communicating what a pain in the butt all this getting dressed is for the woman. When I've photographed weddings it always seems that there is a moment of confusion with the clothes for the women and I love that this picture captured that feeling. I also love the woman highlighted in the background sillouhetted against the window. This just added to the tension in the image and every good image has some tension nestled within its four corners.
