2nd place in Getting Ready
The WPJA contest judges presented Pino Mercurio, a Italy wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Wonderful sense of humor and nice design.
- I’m usually a second shooter when covering a wedding which ultimately means my first subject is the groom and his party. Invariably, it seems, this ends up being a room with low ceilings, fluorescent lights and shoddy ventilation. That certainly wasn’t the case in this photo. While the setting is decidedly rugged and rough around the edges, it makes for a delightfully humorous moment for the photographer.
