1st place in Wildcard Portrait
The WPJA contest judges presented Ralf Czogallik, a Limburg, Netherlands wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Unusual scene. Unusual composition. Nice use of technology.
- Oh my! What’s not love about this beautiful image of a bride and groom walking amidst a story tale landscape of snow? I enjoyed how the couple’s attire match the monochromatic shades of black and white and how they seem to be “lost together” in this vast landscape, holding hands as warmth against the cold. It’s a fantasy coming true, ripe fodder for any of our dreams.
