2nd place in Musicians & DJs
The WPJA contest judges presented Maykol Nack, a Santa Catarina, Brazil wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- The photographer did a great job of marrying both the DJ and bride and groom; the reflection of the DJ was well-placed on the console.
- Great lighting to show both the DJ and the bride and groom dancing.
- Shooting this scene must have felt like trying to herd cats. I can only imagine the images that “got away.” We all know those photos - that range from the “close but no cigar” frames to the ones that beg to be organized in “file 13” (the waste bin.) But this image takes the difficulty factor a notch or two further because it required both the bride and groom to be captured in the right moment AND the DJ’s reflection in his laptop screen. Then, finally, add the ambient and artificial lighting mix if things weren’t difficult enough already. Yet, none of that really matters. This image wins because it communicates effectively.
