Wedding photographer Javon Longieliere, was awarded 1st place in the Lit Portrait category for the WPJA's 2014 Q1 Photography Contest.
- This is a beautifully executed portrait with a lovely balance of three sources of light - an artificial source, candlelight and the sky. An image like this usually requires a fair degree of planning and the right time of day to achieve balance of the sky and candles. The strobe, of course, is more agreeable. The lighting creates the mood but the feeling comes from the touch of her hand to his cheek.
- The bluish hues and the scattered candles really create atmosphere in this photo. I like the longer lens choice and the low-angle that the photographer used because it puts the clouds as the backdrop behind their heads. The narrower depth-of-field softens the trees in the background, which also softens the feel of this photo. Perfect for a couple in love.
