The WPJA contest judges presented Joeri van der Kloet, a Zuid Holland, Netherlands wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Sometimes you look at an image and the right thing happens - you don’t notice any one thing at all. Rather, you simply enjoy the whole photo exactly as it is with not a single rationale for the why or the wherefores of why you like it. Nonetheless, I could write multiple paragraphs about the strength of this image. But the short list is 1: the moment (hint: the raised hand from the backseat of the VW and the “Just Married” bumper sticker) 2: That beautiful, albeit a tad quirky (in a good way) composition and 3: the almost monochromatic feel of this image from a range of colors that are strongly chromatic (red, yellow, blue, cyan and even a whisper of a rainbow) - not to mention a cool jet stream that echoes the linear path of a fence. See what I mean? Sometimes less is truly more.
