1st place in Getting Ready
The WPJA contest judges presented Marianne Earthy, a London, United Kingdom wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- The photo captures the care, pampering and attention to detail that goes into wedding preparations. It's well composed and graphically effective - the attendants' arms center one's attention on the bride's face, and there's a nice relationship between the makeup brush and the straw. The image manages to preserve the elegance and seriousness of the moment while infusing it with the quiet humor of the bride being helped to drink without the use of her hands.
