17th place in First Dance
The WPJA contest judges presented David Posey, a United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

Photographer's Comment
I tend to circle the bride and groom as they enjoy their first dance; and, of course, I'm always seeking to nail my focus on them. In this case, as I walked around the dance area, I happened to see the bride's son in the background with his phone camera aimed at his mom and new stepdad. His eye was on the couple not on the image on his phone; I quickly shifted focus to him and snapped the shutter. From the time I took it, I thought it was a cool shot.
