9th place in Emotion
The WPJA contest judges presented Pinna Lauhachai, a Thailand wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- If you mentally draw the rule of thirds across this photo, you can see how composition adds a visual accent to the image. In the upper right hand cross-section, we find her emotional reaction to the card she reads, resting slightly above the lower right hand cross-section. The empty space at left isolates the moment and adds visual balance. But of particular note is the use of a mid-tele lens and shallow depth of field. The photographer has used every element of visual communication to record this scene and yet retain the silent reverence of the observer.
