1st place in Cake Cutting
The WPJA contest judges presented Elisabeth Millay, a California, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Very funny cake picture. Between the bride's tongue and the elder lady's hand, this is truly a different cake image.
- This image caught a granny getting in on the cake-smearing act.
- This one’s a lot of fun, the elderly woman wiping the cake away, the bride’s look, really a nice moment.
- A great job of anticipation by the photographer who was able to not only capture a strong and spontaneous moment but also was quick enough to include the woman reaching around in the frame.
