7th place in Reception
The WPJA contest judges presented Kevin Seifert, a North Carolina, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

Photographer's Comment
This was a dry wedding during the day. The couple could dance the shag beautifully. But I knew going into this moment that a couple of the bachelors were challenging one another to grab the garter first. I found out after the wedding that the young man catching it in black had caught 7 previous garters! His mom ordered a print of this moment. Because it was a day wedding, the only way to stop the action but keep the natural look of the light was to place strobes in the room. I bounced the light off the ceiling to match the look of the light flooding through the windows at 2 pm in May.

- I think this is one of the best sports images shot at a wedding I have ever seen. It has peak action, great expressions and is full of energy.
