1st place in Getting Ready
The WPJA contest judges presented Simon Carr, a Essex, United Kingdom wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Sweet, tender, quiet moments like these are often overlooked. Not seeing either of the faces doesn't bother me, because I like how the little girl is fixated on the buckle and the bride-to-be is fixated on the little girl. That kiss of light coming in adds to the angelic feel of the moment.
- This is a lovely picture of a child helping the bride in what appears to be last minute fixes. It jumped out for its sweetness in content and the beauty and simplicity in the scene and composition. The photographer made a great decision by not getting too close and letting us look in on this moment just as it was.
