1st place in Getting Ready
The WPJA contest judges presented Scott Juarez, a United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Silly and graphic, Juarez’s photo froze a behind-the-scenes moment as a mom helped her daughter, the flower girl, into her dress. The image is full of clever contrasts—the tiny formal dress and the woman’s jeans, the headless subjects and their visible feet. You can almost hear the little girl shouting, “Mom! Get me out of here!” Looking like part puppeteer, part magician, this slice of life moment has humorous overtones and was well seen by the photographer. Another image in a very humorous vein, this great slice of life is well composed and well-captured.
