6th place in Getting Ready
The WPJA contest judges presented Diana M. Lott, a United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- This may not be the best composition in the world but it is a fine photograph. Those two individuals locking their eyes on each other just prior to the marriage is priceless. Sometimes photojournalism isn’t perfect. These photos aren’t made under conditions we have control over. But when push comes to shove we have to simplify and extract the essence of the moment. That is done well here. The woman’s hair and back are uneasily close to the edge of the frame and that causes a certain amount of tension that doesn’t add to the photograph. Nice photograph though.
